Lara Grant

Lara is a designer, prototyper, researcher and educator. Her skills and interests are in wearable electronics, crafting techniques, process and how concepts of sustainability can apply to fashion, technology and the combination of the two.

She is a specialist in integrating new technology and materials with fashion and textiles. Her early career in costume and fashion design, pattern-making and sewing, makes her a unique combination of expertise that encapsulates the frontier of wearable technology. She has a BFA in Fashion and Textile Design and MPS from NYU in Interactive Telecommunications with a focus in Wearable Technology.

Some of her past work include building alternative controllers using soft circuitry and e-textile design, working for NASA, Victoria’s Secret and as the Fashion Technologist for Switch Embassy. As an educator, she has held workshops at research conferences and festivals such as NIME and Maker Faire.

Lara currently works as a designer at Instructables and teaches Wearable and Soft Interactions at the California College of the Arts.
