Georgina Voss
Georgina Voss has a background in the anthropology of technology and innovation systems. Her interests focus on the relationships between complex technological and regulatory infrastructures; hardware and machine tools; notions of ‘deviance’; and the politics of speculations across these spaces.
Voss is a co-founder of research and design studio Strange Telemetry, with recent work including Senescence (2015), marking the first active use of speculative design in UK government policy processes. She is currently a member of the inaugural Experimental Research Lab at Autodesk’s Pier 9; and a Fellow at the Science and Technology Policy Research Unit (SPRU), University of Sussex.
Her collaborative work with Wesley Goatley has been commissioned by the Brighton Digital Festival and Artefact Festival, Leuven; with recent projects include Familiars (2015) and As Above Not Below (2016).
Voss is the author of Stigma and the Shaping of the Pornography Industry (Routledge, 2015), and a member of The Guardian newspaper’s Political Science blog. Her writing has appeared in publications including Wired UK, Science as Culture, Sexualities, and The Oxford Handbook of the Creative Industries. She has held positions with Tinker London, Royal College of Art, Goldsmiths, and MIT; and a Studio Residency at Lighthouse Arts, Brighton. She holds a PhD in Science and Technology Studies and a MSc in Science and Technology Policy from SPRU, University of Sussex; and an MBiochem from Oxford University.
